Man caught inside residence charged with burglary
BY KEITH EPPS
A suspected burglar was caught in the act Monday morning in southern Stafford, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said the Sheriff’s Office got a report at 7:36 a.m. that a porch door had been opened and that motion detector alarm had been set off at a home on Clint Lane in Charleston Commons. Deputy Mark Persson Jr. arrived at the residence, which is off State Route 218, about three minutes later.
The front door was secure, but Perrson noticed that a door on the third-story was open and a lock was damaged. While waiting for backup to arrive, Kennedy said, Perrson saw a head pop out into the stairwell and he challenged the suspect to come out. The suspect complied and was taken into custody without incident.
Property in the home had been tampered with, Kennedy said, but the suspect didn’t have a chance to take anything. Tools that the suspect apparently used to break into the home were also recovered inside.
Torrance Darrell Moses, 25, of Dumfries was charged with breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Kennedy said the residents came home shortly after Moses was arrested and confirmed that no one was supposed to be in the home.
