Louisa firefighter killed in crash
A Louisa County firefighter was killed today in a single vehicle crash after his truck struck a tree.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Virginia State Police responded to a reported crash on U.S. 33, Jefferson Highway, just half a mile east of Cedar Hill Road in Louisa County.
According to State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar, the crash occurred when the driver of a 1992 Ford F-150 pick-up truck traveling westbound on Route 33 ran off the right side of the road and truck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn.
The driver, 21-year-old Charles D. Wilson of Bumpass, suffered serious life threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to U.Va. Medical Center in Charlottesville where he later died.
He was wearing his seat belt, Molnar said.
Wilson was a career firefighter and EMT with the Louisa County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the ongoing state police investigation, Molnar said.
