Louisa to hold ‘a moment of healing’ event Friday
While recovering from an earthquake, school vandalism and even a tornado today, a community fundraising event will be held tonight to let residents of Louisa County know that ‘Louisa Cares.
‘The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday night at the athletic fields at Louisa Middle School at 1009 Davis highway in Mineral.
The citizen-driven fundraiser will benefit the Louisa Education Foundation and the Louisa Housing Foundation to assist the local schools and community recover and rebuild after the magnitude 5.8 earthquake that struck Mineral on Aug. 23.
The free event will have “musical entertainment, family fun, activities, prizes, concessions and a spirit of unity as individuals, businesses, civic clubs and churches come together to generate moral and financial support for Louisa’s public schools and for families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by the quake,” said Louisa Schools spokeswoman Jaclyn O’Laughlin in a news release.
At midnight, there will be a display of fireworks.
All proceeds from Louisa Cares activities will be split by the two foundations and representatives from each group will be there to accept tax-deductible donations to their respective ‘Disaster relief’ funds.
