WHO:      Representatives for Lowe’s Home Improvement will deliver 1,000 combination smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector units to Louisa County officials.

WHAT:    The combination smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector units will go to individual homes damaged by a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Louisa County on August 23, 2011.  The Louisa County Department of Fire and EMSwill distribute the units to homes that have reported damage to county emergency officials.  (Smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector units will not be issued at the delivery location.)

WHEN and WHERE:

Tuesday, September 27

VDOT facility

3709 Davis Highway, Louisa, VA 23093

WHY:      Smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector units can save lives after an earthquake.  Broken or cracked chimneys can let heat, smoke and toxic gasses escape into the home, causing fire or death by carbon monoxide poisoning.
