Earthquake causes $6.3 million in residential damage so far

LOUISA, VA – Louisa County and the Fluvanna/Louisa Housing Foundation have established an emergency fund to help uninsured or underinsured homeowners pay for house repairs because of earthquake damage. Checks should be made out to the Fluvanna/Louisa Housing Foundation, PO Box 160, Louisa, VA 23093 with Louisa Earthquake written in the memo line. LOUISA, VIRGINIA – Louisa County damage assessment teams have been working since early Wednesday morning to estimate the extent of damage caused by Tuesday’s earthquake. Teams have been concentrated within a five mile radius of the quake’s epicenter.
Preliminary estimates for the five mile radius are the following:
- · $6.3 million in damages to residential structures
- · $400,000 in damages to religious structures
- · $84,000 in damages to commercial structures
- · $50,000 in damages to government structures (not including public schools)
Local officials expect these figures to grow as damage assessment teams continue to traverse the county.
