Louisa declares state of emergency due to wild fire

LOUISA, VIRGINIA – Louisa County has declared a local state of emergency because of a wild fire between Chopping Road (623) and Zackary Taylor Highway (522). It is estimated that up to 1,200 acres have been affected.
Residents have been, or are in the process of being evacuated from the following areas:
Mineral Trailer Park on SR 522
Hidden Farm Subdivision
Dan Hall Road
Johnny Hall Road
Old Country Road
Hancock Road
Zackary Taylor Highway (522) is closed between Tolersville Road, on the border of the Town of Mineral, and Chopping Road (623).
The fire began when a tree struck a power line on the 1000 block of Chopping Road.
An emergency shelter has been opened at the Louisa County Middle School.
