LOUISA, VIRGINIA – Louisa County has declared a local state of emergency because of a wild fire between Chopping Road (623) and Zackary Taylor Highway (522). It is estimated that up to 1,200 acres have been affected.

Residents have been, or are in the process of being evacuated from the following areas:

Mineral Trailer Park on SR 522

Hidden Farm Subdivision

Dan Hall Road

Johnny Hall Road

Old Country Road

Hancock Road

Zackary Taylor Highway (522) is closed between Tolersville Road, on the border of the Town of Mineral, and Chopping Road (623).

The fire began when a tree struck a power line on the 1000 block of Chopping Road.

An emergency shelter has been opened at the Louisa County Middle School.
