Louisa Water Authority facing civil charges
From the Associated Press:
LOUISA, Va. (AP) _ The Louisa County Water Authority is facing civil charges for permit violations at two treatment plants.
According to a consent order with the state, the authority faces 164,700 in charges for exceeding discharge limits for total suspended solids, E. coli and other levels at its Zion Crossroads Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The authority also faces 50,760 in charges for exceeding discharge limits for zinc at its Louisa Regional Sewage Treatment Plant.
The Daily Progress reports that most of the charges, 172,368, could be satisfied by completing a supplemental environmental project.
Interim general manager and county attorney Dale G. Mullen says the compliance issues are being addressed through upgrades.
