Restoration of rights workshop Tuesday in King George
A restoration of rights work shop for ex-offenders and their supporters is planned Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the King George Department of Social Services. The address is 10069 Kings Highway, King George.
According to the flyer from Virginia Organizing, the session will provide step-by-step information for ex-offenders interested in restoring their voting rights. There also will be a discussion on how to run a “ban the box” campaign for employment justice. The campaign started in 2004 and asks employers to choose the best candidate based on job skills and qualifications, not past convictions.
“Since one in four adults in the U.S. has a conviction history, the impact of this discrimination is widespread,” according to ban theboxcampaign.org website.
