The Virginia Run for the Fallen, a tribute to the state’s military fallen heroes and their families, came through King George last week. More than 20 active duty, retired and government employees from the county and the Navy base at Dahlgren ran with the group as it passed through King George.

From May 1-4, the caravan and runners traveled from Fort Story to Arlington National Cemetery. Local runners joined in when the group entered King George north of Port Royal on U.S. 301.

Two groups of of runners carried the flags for 36 miles for the core group of runners who ran the entire 245 miles, said Doug Cantrell, a chief of staff member at the base.

American Legion Post 89 in Dahlgren also hosted a dinner for the families of the fallen, as well as the runners and staff.
