Tax rates for the last 10 years
Here’s an interesting look at the way tax rates have changed in King George County in the last decade. The numbers are from the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, dated June 2013. They represent the real estate tax rate, which is based on $100 of assessed value.
- 2004-05: 77 cents
- 2005-06: 77 cents
- 2006-07: 40 cents. Property values went up during reassessments and rates went down to equalize the difference.
- 2007-08: 44 cents
- 2008-09: 45 cents
- 2009-10: 45 cents
- 2010-11: 50 cents. This was another change because of reassessment and not a true rate hike.
- 2011-12: 50 cents
- 2012-13: 53 cents
- 2013-14: 53 cents
The proposed real estate tax rate for 2014-15 is 59 cents. Half of that is to equalize the difference caused by reassessment; the other half is a true tax hike.
