Library’s grand opening Sept. 28
Residents will be able to take a look at the newly renovated and expanded L.E. Smoot Memorial Library during a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.
The library had been operating out of the old King George Middle School, but closed down those operations last month.
The expansion will more than double the size of the library. The existing facility, which is shaped like a cross, is almost 11,000 square feet. The addition will add 17,796 square feet. The total cost of the expansion, including construction and furniture, fees and technology-related expenses, is $5.86 million.
Board of Supervisors members had a look at the renovation last fall and were thrilled with what they saw. “It actually looked like a church on the inside, it was so beautiful,” said Cedell Brooks Jr. “I think the citizens of King George County will be very proud of what we have to offer them.”
