YMCA celebrates after-school programs
On Thursday, Oct. 18, the King George YMCA will celebrate “Lights on After School,” a national program that stresses the need for the lights to stay on—and the doors open—for programs that offer activities to children after school.
King George got a state grant for its after-school program, Director Elizabeth Clark told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. She gave each member handmade invitations from the children, inviting them to festivities on Thursday. She asked the board to continue its support of programs that keep children safe after school and help working families.
After Clark mentioned the children will be playing dodge ball, Supervisor Dale Sisson Jr. asked if the board should field a team. “You will be on the old person’s side,” she said, “And yes, they will take you on anytime.”
