Buy hurricane supplies without paying sales tax May 25-31
Here’s information from Lt. Steve Lynd of King George’s Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services about Virginia’s hurricane preparedness sales tax holiday.
From May 25-31, residents can buy items such as batteries, food-storage containers, generators, first aid kits, bottled water and radios without paying sales tax on items that cost up to $60 or on generators that are $1,000 or less. A complete list of exempt items is available here.
In addition to purchasing supplies, families should also develop an emergency plan. More information about preparing homes and businesses for natural disaster is available at the Ready Virginia page.
Hurricane season starts June 1. Read more about hurricanes here.
