Dominion Power posts maps of possible routes for new high-voltage line
If anyone wants to check out the five routes in the running for Dominion Power’s new high-voltage transmission line, maps are available online.
Click this link to see the routes, which all start on State Route 3 and end at the new substation Dominion plans to build at the Navy base in Dahlgren.
Dominion plans an open house on Wednesday at the King George Citizens Center. From 4 to 7 p.m., citizens can look at the suggested routes and let Dominion officials know which ones they support. Dominion representatives will be available to answer questions.
The overhead line will be about 10 miles long and run from an existing line on Route 3 to the new substation. It’s needed to meet the ever-growing need for energy in the Dahlgren area.
Since 2001, the demand for electricity there increased 55 percent—because of activity at the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren as well as residential and commercial growth.
