FRED buses will stay on the road
FRED buses will keep rolling in King George County, although they won’t be stopping in Fairview Beach after June 30.
This afternoon, the Board of Supervisors announced it would keep FREDericksburg Regional Transit buses in the county, instead of cutting all service as board members had suggested during budget discussions.
Supervisors moved less money into accounts for future building projects to fund the $100,000 bus service.
The amount was $40,000 less than FRED requested. As a result, the county will get 12 hours of bus service instead of the 16 hours it currently has.
FRED Director Kathy Beck said she was happy the service will continue in the rural county.
“Obviously, we would have liked to have kept it at 16 hours, but we’re pleased they didn’t cancel it altogether,” she said.
