Helping others, beyond the holidays
Here’s a neat event, being done at Shiloh Baptist Church next month. It’s a free soup lunch, open to all, as part of the church’s mission to “reach, build and serve” others.
Church member Mike Rose, who also serves on the county School Board, gave his reasons for supporting the effort. In an e-mail to church members, he said the church needs to find “ways to serve others in the name of Christ. We just went through the holidays where many groups work to provide meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but what about the rest of the year?”
Good point, Mike. People have hunger pangs and needs year-round, not just during the winter holidays.
Shiloh’s free lunch will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, which is at 13457 Kings Highway. Lunch will be held in the church’s Family Life Center. The church is coordinating the lunch with its Feed the Needy minstry, so anyone food leftover will go to needy families in the area.
