Keep cool this weekend
Because of the extreme high temperatures expected this weekend, the county will have its cooling shelter open for anyone needing relief.
It won’t be in the normal place, the Citizens Center, but will be at the King George Fire & Rescue Company 1 headquarters on State Route 3, across from the Food Lion shopping center.
The cooling center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
It will provide an air-conditioned seating area and cold drinking water, but no food. Pets are not allowed.
King George officials will evaluate the heat conditions next week and reopen the shelter if needed.
Anyone with questions can call 775-8900.
