Marketing the market

The King George Farmers Market has received the most votes in Virginia so far in an online contest called America’s Favorite Farmers Markets.

As of today, the market had 431 votes, compared to 279 for the No. 2 placer, Williamsburg Farmers Market.

The contest is a project of the American Farmland Trust and is designed to raise awareness about the importance of supporting fresh food from local farms. Voting continues until Aug. 31.

The winning markets will receive various prizes, such as “No Farms No Food” tote bags and free promotional services.

King George is in the newest category—called boutique—for markets with 15 vendors or less. To vote, go to farmland.org and click on the link for America’s Favorite Farmers Market.

The King George market operates on Saturday mornings in the parking lot of the King George Elementary School, off State Route 205.
