Update on Dahlgren fire
Two technicians who work for Power & Heat Inc. were burned in last Friday’s boiler explosion at the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense headquarters at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren.
One man received burns to his face and hands, and another was burned on his hands, said spokesman Gary Wagner. Both men were taken to the hospital; one came home the same day, the other, the next day.
The technicians were adjusting the combustion mix in the boiler when the explosion occurred, Wagner said.
The blast caused a small fire, which was put out quickly. More than 400 workers were evacuated from the Aegis headquarters and the adjacent building, then returned to work about an hour later.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation, Wagner said.
