Stafford Sheriff’s Office awaiting autopsy results in Monday fire
Detectives with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of the child killed on Monday in a house fire in the Hartwood area.
The child’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond Monday night where an autopsy was to be conducted.
The autopsy had not been completed as of noon today, according to Arkuie Williams, spokesman for the ME’s office.
The Stafford Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire that engulfed a home on King Daniels Way. Fire officials got the first call at 2:19 p.m. on Monday, Stafford Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Mark Doyle said .
The fire was on both levels of the two-story home when the first firefighters arrived on scene, Doyle said late Monday. He said the fire, heat and structural collapse prevented firefighters from entering the structure immediately.
Once they did, they located the child.
Neither the Sheriff’s Office nor Doyle have released information on the child’s identity at this time.
