What inspires people to stick with an exercise routine? Click here to read today’s Healthy Life Virginia newsletter, which features a story on what makes people think of exercise as vital — and not just a chore. The newsletter also features a story on how women can be pregnant and not know it, plus dinner and lunch recipes, an exercise suggestion, a stress-busting tip and more.

Since it’s so hot, I’m trying to round up recipes to share with readers that require little if any cooking. If you’ve got a favorite dish for hot summer nights and are willing to share the recipe, please send me a note at jmarshall@freelancestar.com.

Finally, with the heat wave continuing and even getting worse, here’s a link to an informative flyer on extreme heat put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/extremeheat/pdf/BrochurePREVIEW.pdf. It includes a reminder that those most at risk of suffering in the heat include the elderly, children, people who work or exercise outside, the homeless and people with chronic medical conditions.

Be safe, stay cool and get help if you or someone you love exhibits the signs of heat stroke, which include dry, red skin; a temperature above 103 degrees; confusion; unconsciousness; muscle weakness; and a rapid, strong pulse.
