Yoga, for health and for charity
The latest in a series of yoga classes designed to promote the healthful practice while also raising money for charity will be held Saturday from 4:30-6 p.m. at Heart to the Sky Yoga Space. The yoga studio is inside the BOA Martial Arts Center at 930 Bragg Road, just a little west of Costco.
A group of Fredericksburg-area yoga teachers have teamed up to lead once-a-month classes that are free to attend, but at which participants are asked to make a donation to charity. Last month, the group raised $270 for Hope House, a shelter for homeless women and children in Fredericksburg. This month’s donations will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, according to a press release provided by one of the teachers, Maartje Maas-Potterton.
The class Saturday will be led by Alex Kelly-Maartens, who created and teaches a unique fusion of yoga, Pilates and tai chi called Pitaiyo. The class is open to all, and yoga mats will be available, though the organizers encourage people to bring their own mats if possible.
