Gluten-free cooking, lunch with Doris Buffett

It’s not too late to bid on the chance to have lunch with local philanthropist Doris Buffett; the silent auction, part of a fundraiser for Fredericksburg Counseling Services, ends Friday evening at 10:15 p.m.

To bid, go to ebay.com, search for “lunch with Doris Buffett,” create an account if you don’t already have one, and place your bid. A word of caution to those on a budget: The bidding has already topped $3,000.

Now, about gluten-free cooking: Harvest Market, a health food store in Spotsylvania Courthouse Village, will host a gluten-free cooking class Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. The class will be led by June Lowery, who the market’s newsletter said was diagnosed with celiac disease 26 years ago, giving her “time to test and perfect recipes.” People with celiac disease can’t tolerate gluten, the protein found in wheat, barley and rye.

The cooking class is free; for more information about the class or other upcoming events at the  market, call 540/507-8040, or visit the store’s website, hrvstmrkt.com.
