HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Wolverines open with a road win

Sophomore Malachai Harrison rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead North Stafford’s football team to a 34–0 season-opening win at Petersburg on Thursday.

The Wolverines were in control throughout, building on a 21–0 halftime lead.

Denzel Opoku gained 72 yards on 11 carries. Guy Keith and Jack Manhire both caught touchdown passes—Pat Ayala threw one and Jimmy Edwards the other. And Kamron Wright recorded a pair of quarterback sacks.

North Stafford hosts James Monroe next Friday.

FIELD HOCKEY

BROOKE POINT 4, ALBEMARLE 0

Caroline Wilkerson and Emily Gannon scored two goals each to lead the Black– Hawks in a nonconference victory.

Taylor Hayes assisted on both of Gannon’s goals, and Sierra Smizer had seven saves for Brooke Point, which hosts Stafford on Tuesday.

JOHN PAUL THE GREAT 2, FREDERICKSBURG ACADEMY 1

The Falcons had an 18–9 shots advantage but gave up a second-half goal to fall in their season-opener.

Cate Hazel scored for Fredericksburg Academy, and Maya Schattgen had a standout defensive game.

The Falcons plays at Wakefield on Thursday.

MASSAPONAX 2, NORTH STAFFORD 0

Erin Morrison scored in the first half and Isabel Ronza in the second to help Massaponax open its season with a win.

Sam Frain added an assist and the defense did well as a unit for the Panthers (1–0), who host Mountain View next Thursday.

GOLF

ORANGE 174, FLUVANNA 194

Orange’s Isaiah Boucher and Fluvanna’s Jack Stanke shared medalist honors, with each carding 41s, but the Hornets (7–5) captured the team win.

Orange hosts Charlottesville and Massaponax at Lake of the Woods on Tuesday.

Orange (174): Isaiah Boucher 41, Ryan Dodson 42, Austin Bryant 45, Michael Yager 46.

Wednesday’s late results

VOLLEYBALL

ST. MARGARET’S 3, COLONIAL BEACH 1

Kenzie Cox had six aces and seven kills, and McKenzie Conway added six aces and four kills for Colonial Beach, but visiting St. Margaret’s got a 25–10, 25–12, 23–25, 27–25 win.

Katelyn Dunaway totaled 17 assists for the Drifters (0–1), who host King & Queen next Thursday.
