HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Eagles overcome early deficit to get victory

Colonial Forge capped off a rally from a two-goal deficit when Emily Flanagan scored the game-winner off a corner from Nikki Simpao, giving the visiting Eagles a 3–2 field hockey win over Deep Run on Wednesday.

Nicole Mares and Heather Kelley also scored, while Simpao finished with two assists and Mares one for the Eagles, who host Mountain View on Tuesday.

Sydney Duimstra and Summer Powers scored to stake Deep Run to a 2–0 lead.

FIELD HOCKEY

JAMES MONROE 6, CULPEPER 0

Miranda Rigg and Lizzie Hamlett each registered two goals and an assist to help James Monroe get a win.

LC King also scored twice for the Yellow Jackets, who visit Kettle Run on Sept. 4.

Becca Hamlett provided an assists for JM.

KING GEORGE 3, LIBERTY 0

Alexis Sheehan scored twice in the first half to help homestanding King George get a win.

Liz Hill added a goal and an assist, while Mickey Perrotte had an assist for the Foxes, who visit Fauquier next Wednesday.

 

GOLF

CONFERENCE 4 MINI

Jake Miles and Sameer Qader both shot 73s, and Curtis Pattillo and Josh Kennison carded 79s to help the Bears prevail in a Conference 4 mini tournament at The Gauntlet.

Woodbridge’s Adam Szwed was the medalist with a 69.

The Bears’ 304 was 19 shots better than second-place Colonial Forge (323).

Riverbend (304): Jake Miles 73, Sameer Qader 73, Curtis Pattillo 79, Josh Kennison 79.

Colonial Forge (323): Kyle Cardenas 79, Aaron Keeton 79; Ben Hallet 80, Katie Thome 85.

Woodbridge (366): Adam Szwed 69, Michael McInnis 94, Kevin Mitchell 100, Tyler Hackstein 103.

 

VOLLEYBALL

EASTERN VIEW 3, STAFFORD 2

Brandi Williams had six kills and Kara Ebeling contributed 20 assists for Stafford, but homestanding Eastern View pulled out a 25–22, 25–16, 24–26, 23–25, 15–12 volleyball win on Wednesday.

Defensively, Nathalia Dunlop had 17 digs and Gabby Szuminski 15 for the Indians (0–2), who will take part in the Virginia Volleyball Showcase on Friday and Saturday in Richmond.
