Group 6A



Coaches: Keith Mesa

Last year: 25–5 overall, Conference 4 runner-up.

Top returners: Jr. MH Nori Thomas; Jr. OH Madi Porter; Sr. OH Nicole Ibinson; Jr. S Presley Maghan; Jr. MB Janelle Ezegwu; Sr. L Isis Garcia.

Top newcomers: Sr. OH Kayla Ostendorf; Sr. S Kiara Greene.

Outlook: Four starters return, but the Eagles must replace two standouts, including FLS player of the year Brooke Sanders. They should compete with Forest Park for the Conference 4 title.



Coach: Jack Linblad

Last year: 13–9 overall.

Top returners: Sr. L Nicole Shannon; S. RSH Ana Torres; Jr. OH Peyton Linblad.

Top newcomers: Jr. MH Seone Goode; Sr. S Christina Beck.

Outlook: Linblad doesn’t think the Bears are an overpowering offensive team, but if they play with sound fundamentals, Riverbend can enjoy a very competitive year.



Coach: Jessica Dye

Last year: 6–14 overall.

Top returners: Sr. MH/OH Gabby Szuminski; Jr. OH Samantha Larrabee; Sr. L/DS Lora Koytcheva; Sr. L/DS Nathalia Dunlop; Sr. RS Shannon Fenwick.

Top newcomers: Sr. MH Briana Graves; Sr. OH Brandi Williams; Jr. S Kara Ebeling; Jr. DS Taylor Pridemore.

Outlook: A new coaching staff is committed to turning the program around this fall. One of the newcomers sat out last year because of injury; another is a transfer from Texas.


Group 5A



Coaches: Terri Starliper

Last year: 14–11 overall.

Top returners: Jr. MH Alyssa Andreno; So. OH Stephanie Jacobsen; Sr. S Briana Gardner; Jr. S Abby Harris.

Top newcomers: Fr. OH Wooten Deveis.

Outlook: The Black–Hawks have had a string of improving seasons since 2012 and Starliper expects even more this year. With a strong group of returners, Brooke Point should be a strong contender for the conference title.



Coach: Joe Cox

Last year: 18–10 overall

Top returners: So. OH Emma Swope; Sr. S Makayla Guentner; Jr. MH/OH Kayla Bowler; Sr. MH Tori Risner; Sr. L Alli Patrick; Sr. OH Indiana Wright.

Top newcomers: So. OH/MH Sydney Jones; Jr. L Haley Heath; So. S/OH Alyssa Elliott; Jr. OH Kathy Seeley; Jr. L Desyree Anderson.

Outlook: The Panthers have worked hard on strength and conditioning to improve their stamina in matches. Cox expects the Panthers’ defense to be very strong this year; the question will be how the offense develops.



Coach: Stacey Marsh

Last year: 12–14 overall.

Top returners: Sr. L Brittney Bullis; Sr. OH Emily Abramaitys; Sr. S Taylor Barbazon.

Top newcomers: So. OH Tiaralyn McBride.

Outlook: The Wildcats have 10 returners and seven seniors. They’re expecting to build on last year’s improvement.



Coach: Kendra Woodbridge

Last year: Fourth in Conference 15.

Top returners: Sr. OH Capri Clark; Sr. RS Shannon Bellfield; Sr. S/RS Ebonie Hicks.

Top newcomers: So. S/RS Zoe Allen; So. MH Lindsay Pryor.

Outlook: The young Wolverines are in a rebuilding year and will be working on getting back to basics to help them improve as the season goes on. Heart and teamwork will be important features of the team as it continues to build its program under coach Woodbridge.



Coach: Briana Hoover

Last year: 2–18 overall.

Top returners: Sr. MH Madison Barber; So. OH Laine Hairrington; Sr. L Kelly Winkler.

Outlook: The Hornets are looking for improvement this year with some talented—if still young—players.


Group 4A



Coach: Drew Lovering

Last year: 6–18 overall.

Top returners: Sr. OH Ashley Maungal–Cruz; Sr. OH Domonique St. Ours.

Top newcomers: So. S Savanna Pitts; Jr. MB Jayla McNeil.

Outlook: It’s a building year for the Cavaliers. They’ve got a young group, but they’re athletic and hungry for success.




Coach: Bob Walsh

Last year: 6–15 overall.

Top returners: Sr. MB Shawn Morris; Sr. S Riley Pates; So. L Brittany Margelos; So. OH Emma Meek; Sr. OH Sydney Jackson; Jr. S Tiffany Washington; Jr. S Emily Ginn; Jr. Nicole Jenkins.

Top newcomers: Fr. MB Sydney Collins; So. OH Ashleigh Jenkins; So. OH Eryn Suttle.

Outlook: After a tough 2013, the Chargers look to bounce back with a more experienced squad that returns five starters. They’ve got good size and versatility to mix in.



Coach: Bob Hott

Last year: 24–2 overall, Conference 22 champions.

Top returners: So. OH/S Tenley Hares; Sr. D Maddie Caldwell; Sr. MB Maddie Sutherland; Sr. OH/MB Sydney Wiles.

Top newcomers: Jr. OH/S Chantal Padilla; So. MB Michaella Ulses; Jr. OH Andersen Powell; Fr. DS Hannah Dyer.

Outlook: The Cougars are young, but there is still a lot of talent. Consistency will be a major challenge, but Courtland should again contend for the conference crown.



Coach: Adam Gresham

Last year: Fifth in conference.

Top returners: Sr. MB Brooke Downs; Sr. Libero Josie Kriter; Sr. Def. Spec. Courtney Dalimonte; Jr. S Mary Murphy; Sr. S Julia Cuccherini; Sr. MH Zoie Reece.

Top newcomers: So. MH Julianne Brick; Jr. OH Aly O’Reilly

Outlook: A senior-laden team that should be able to count on its experienced players in close matches. Downs will be an asset in the middle as the team looks to be competitive in the conference and hit its stride come playoff time.



Coach: Jill Wine

Last year: 9–16 overall.

Top returners: Sr. MH Sha’Tiva Harvey; Jr. OH Micala Peterson; Jr. Opp. Mackenzie Miniuk; So. OH Madi Koban; So. OH/S Andrea Wine.

Top newcomers: Jr. S Abbey Davis; Jr. DS Brittney Morad; So. MH Sidney Mrotek.

Outlook: Nine of King George’s 12 varsity players have also participated at the club level during the offseason. That’s led to an improvement in skills and should keep helping the Foxes’ team to improve, too.




Coach: Joel Abe

Last year: Third in conference.


Group 3A



Coach: Jennifer Mullen

Last year: Fourth in conference.



Coach: Shamus Gordon

Last year: 0–16 overall.

Top returners: Jr. MH Monica Dit; So. OH Sophomore Imani Smith; Sr. L Alize Catlett.

Top newcomers: So. S Anna Katherine Bolwes.

Outlook: Gordon feels like the team will show a lot of improvement in his second year at the school. They’ve got a young roster but they’re focused on long-term improvement.



Coach: Kelli Tarleton

Last year: 

Top returners: Sr. RSH Claire Jarrell; So. MH Veronica Lane; Jr. MH/RSH Taylor Sale; Jr. O Ashlynn Greene.

Top newcomers: Jr. L Ginny Sorrell; Jr. S Hannah Brooks; Fr. S Kailey Dildine.

Outlook: With a young squad, the Knights are trying to build a foundation for their future behind the leadership of Jarrell, the team’s lone senior.


Group 1A



Coach: Chase Davidson

Last year: Seventh in conference 43.



Coach: Drew Hutt

Last year: Sixth in conference 43.

Top returners: Sr. Def. Spec. Morgan Hutt; Sr. RSH/Def. Spec. Abbey Perkins; Jr. OH/Def. Spec. Ashley McGill; Sr. RSH Katie Allen; Jr. OH/Def. Spec. Nica Wyszynski; So. S Devany Jones.

Top newcomers: So. Libero Shayanna Rector; So. RSH Gabby Ransome; So. MH Lexi Lambert.

Outlook: The Eagles graduated four qualify seniors and have a rather young core despite several players returning. The goal will be to compete and get better with each match while playing a tough conference slate.

Private schools


Coach: Jeff Shaeffer

Last year: 23–5 overall, second in the state.

Top returners: Jr. OH Marnie Streeter; Sr. OH Beth Bjornsen; Jr. S Alaina Hudson.

Top newcomers: So. L Lydia Sumpolec; 8th DS Allie Garrison.

Outlook: After one of the best seasons in school history, the Eagles will be quite a bit younger this fall. Still, Shaeffer believes they can contend again for the DAC crown.
