HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Thomas, Porter lead Eagles

Colonial Forge started its volleyball season with a 25–16, 25–22, 19–25, 25–13 win over homestanding Massaponax on Tuesday night.

Nori Thomas had 13 kills and six aces, Madi Porter and Kayla Ostendorf recorded nine kills and six kills, respectively, and Presley Maghan added six digs and 20 assists.

The Panthers were led by Emma Swope with five kills, six digs, three aces and two blocks; Desyree Anderson with 14 digs; and Tori Risner with three aces and two blocks.

Colonial Forge (1–0) and Massaponax both travel to Richmond on Friday and Saturday for the Virginia Volleyball Showcase.

 

 

VOLLEYBALL

RIVERBEND 3, COURTLAND 0

Peyton Lindblad had eight kills and Ana Torres six to help visiting Riverbend get a 25–15, 25–17, 25–22 win.

Nicole Shannon added nine digs for the Bears (2–0), who visit North Stafford on Sept. 2.

Chantal Padilla had seven assists, Denali Hadlock 10 digs and Sydney Wiles two kills and three digs for Courtland.

Maddie Caldwell and Katy Sexton added four digs each for the Cougars, who take part in the Virginia Volleyball Showcase of Friday and Saturday in Richmond.

 

FRED. CHRISTIAN 3, CHANCELLOR 1

Marnie Streeter had 20 kills and five aces to help the Eagles improved to 2–0 on the season with a 29–27, 19–25, 25–16, 26–24 win over the Chargers.

Beth Bjornsen recorded seven kills and nine aces, and Alaina Hudson had 25 assists for Fredericksburg Christian.

Emma Meek and Tiffany Washington combined for 19 kills, and Brittany Margelos had four aces for Chancellor (0–2), which visits FCS on Sept. 2.

 

GOLF

TRI-MATCH AT LOW

Western Albemarle’s Dixon Haas shot a 2-over par 38 to win individual medalist honors and led the Warriors (167) to a team win on the Front 9 at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.

Orange edged Eastern View for second, 180–184. The Hornets (6–5) visit Fluvanna on Thursday.

Orange (180): Ryan Dodson 40, Isaiah Boucher 45, Michael Yager 47, Anthony La Cava 48.

Eastern View (184): Coleby Roman 45, Justin Gorby 46, James Jorgensen 46, Sam Stephenson 47.

 

TRI-MATCH AT CAMERON HILLS

King George’s Devin Drake carded a 2-under-par 34 to win medalist honors and lead the Foxes (166) to a victory over Courtland (182) and Liberty (207).

King George (166): Devin Drake 34, Andrew Berry 40, Carson Marshall 45, Joe Bentz 47.

Courtland (182): Hunter Davis 44, Blane Mathews 46, Patrick Campfield 46, Jackson Sumler 46.

 

CAROLINE 176, CULPEPER 199

Culpeper’s Noah Brear won medalist honors with a 40, but homestanding Caroline earned the team win at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club.

Culpeper (199): Noah Brear 40, Zac Ward 51, Mike Sprinkle 52, Donald Bock 56.
