HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Snyder’s key hit carries Indians

Courtney Snyder’s walk-off single in the seventh inning capped off two-run inning that gave Stafford a 3–2 softball win over visiting Riverbend on Wednesday.

Allison Baker added two hits for the Indians (1–11), who notched their first win since the 2012 season.

Sydney Burton had two hits for the Bears.

Stafford visits Brooke Point today.

Sabrina Rodriguez drove in two runs and Emily Rosenberg struck out nine in the Panthers’ victory.

Caylin Spencer, Tori Risner and Taylor Rinker each doubled for Massaponax.

Erin Dyman had a double and two singles for Courtland.

Massaponax (5–4) hosts Chancellor in a doubleheader tonight.

BOYS SOCCER

COLONIAL FORGE 1, MOUNTAIN VIEW 0

Colonial Forge senior Bryan Kiel scored his first career goal late in the first half off an assist from Andrew Gogolin to lift the Eagles in a nonconference match.

Goalie Nolan Smith recorded his first shutout of the season for the Eagles (4–4), who play Brooke Point on April 29.

MASSAPONAX 2, BROOKE POINT 0

Matt Wiberg and Tyriq Wellman had goals on Andrew Plato had an assist for the Panthers (9–1).

Caleb Herrin recorded seven saves for his fifth shutout of the season for Massaponax, which hosts Mountain View in a Conference 15 game on April 29.

RIVERBEND 3, STAFFORD 0

Zach Diehl had two goals and Zack Taylor also scored in a nonconference win for the Bears. Connor Smith and Brandan Herlinger had assists.

Jon Harrington and Cody Bermudez split time in goal for the shutout for Riverbend (3–2–1).

TURNER ASHBY 5, ORANGE 1

Sam Faulconer scored for the Hornets in a nonconference loss. Keith Ellis assisted on the goal.

Orange (1–4) hosts Powhatan tonight.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

MOUNTAIN VIEW 1, COLONIAL FORGE 0

Ashley SanNicolas scored the loan goal unassisted in the 25th minute for the host Wildcats (8–1–1) at Smith Lake.

Bridget McGregor, Leah Kelly and Grayson Mathews were all solid on defense. Cecilia Keppler had four saves in goal.

Colonial Forge goalie Rachel Carr had six saves.

Mountain View returns from spring break to host Massaponax on April 29.

STAFFORD 2, RIVERBEND 1

Alyssa Kniffin and Nia Fountain scored to lead the Indians over the host Bears. Gabi Hull contributed an assist for Stafford (3–4–1).

Anna Sobus scored and Alliyah Matthews was strong at sweeper for Riverbend (2–4), which plays at Colonial Forge tonight.

MASSAPONAX 3, BROOKE POINT 1

Kennedy Culbreath scored twice and Allison Vaquez once to help visiting Massaponax get a win.

Ashley Jacobs and Leanne Bousquet added assists, with Alex Twiddy and Taylor Lane provided solid defense for the Panthers (6–2–1), who visit Mountain View on April 29.

Rachel Young had the lone goal off a Brittany Morse assist for the Black–Hawks, who got strong defense from Laura Sweet, Miranda Rupp and Sara Caron.

 

BASEBALL

KING GEORGE 9, W&L 0

Lane Ward struck out 12 and allowed just one hit in the Foxes’ nonconference win.

Cody Bell was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Drew Berry and Corey Henderson had two hits each.

Eric Bird struck out seven, allowed three hits and walked one en route to going the distance on the mound to lead Riverbend to a win.

Harry D’Antuano finished 3-for-4 with three stolen bases for visiting Mountain View, but the Vikings pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to come out on top in the Let’s Play Two tournament third-place game.

The Wildcats (5–8) visiting Colonial Forge today.
