BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: ’Hawks hold off Bears for win

The Brooke Point boys basketball team blew a late fourth-quarter lead, but went 13-for-15 from the free-throw line down the stretch to escape with a 67–64 overtime win against visiting Riverbend on Friday.

The Black-Hawks led by 10 midway through the fourth quarter, but committed five straight turnover to allow the Bears to tie the game and force the extra session.

Mike Nugent finished with a double-double for Brooke Point with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Omari Williams added nine points, nine rebounds and five steals.

The Black-Hawks visit Colonial Forge on Monday, while the Bears host Mountain View on Tuesday.

Marco Haskins scored 20 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter as Colonial Forge pulled away for a win against visiting Massaponax.

Haskins also added eight rebounds, while Winston Burgess provided 12 points, six rebounds and five blocks for the Eagles. Damen Daniel chipped in seven rebounds.

Colonial Forge hosts Brooke Point on Monday.

Quan Evans was 6-for-6 at the free-throw line in the final two minutes, and North Stafford missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, as the Indians held on for a win over their county rivals.

Colt Steigerwald had 12 points—including a pair of late free throws—for the Indians, who play at Massaponax on Tuesday.

The Chancellor boys basketball team clinched at least a tie for the Conference 22 title, getting 20 points and seven rebounds in a win over rival Courtland.

Jaire Perry had 11 points and eight rebounds, Josh James had five assists with four steals, and Emmanuel Royster finished with five assists for the Chargers, who play at Spotsylvania on Tuesday.

Eian Chase recorded a team-high 18 points to help King George to the narrow win on the road.

De’Quan Whiting and Anthony Howard added 17 points each for the Foxes, who visit Fauquier today.

As for the Cavaliers, Aason Pankey scored 29 points, including four 3-pointers, and Jaron Clipper had 10 points.

Caroline plays at Courtland on Tuesday.

Darius Carter scored 16 points while adding 10 rebounds and seven assists, to help Spotsylvania remain unbeaten in Conference 27 action after a long layoff due to weather postponements.

Bradley Anderson added 13 rebounds and Jordan McCarty eight, while Bilal Marlowe dished out 11 assists and Alan Courtney five for the Knights, who host Chancellor on Tuesday.
