HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Jennings, Eagles turn back Panthers

The Colonial Forge boys basketball team had a one-point lead going into halftime in their game against Massaponax but came out firing in the third and fourth quarters as the Eagles won their sixth game of the season, beating the Panthers 61–47 on Saturday.

Gary Jennings led the Eagles with 22 points and Aaron McFarland netted 20 points for the Panthers.

Massaponax (6–3) will travel to Stafford Tuesday night.

Deep Run 65, Mountain View 63 OT

Mountain View’s Lucas Brown scored a game–high 26 points but it wasn’t enough to secure an overtime victory against Deep Run.

Deep Run’s Tim Branin and Ruben Arroyo each scored 20 points to give Mountain View its third loss of the season.

Mountain View will play host to Riverbend on Tuesday.

Dave McCauley scored 17 points and Tyler Duncan added 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists to lead the Bears over the Black–Hawks.

Riverbend hosts North Stafford on Monday.

Sunjanta Still had 16 points and eight rebounds, for Brooke Point, which hosts Colonial Beach on Monday.

Led by Marcus Huff and Justin Vargo, Osbourn was able to edge out the Stafford Indians Saturday afternoon. Huff scored 20 points and Vargo added 19 points for the Eagles.

Stafford’s Austin Kerns scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds and Quan Evans scored 11 points and had seven rebounds and five assists.

Stafford (2–6) hosts Massaponax Tuesday night.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lainey Harmon scored 18 points and Candice Beverly contributed 13 more as the Riverbend girls basketball team defeated Brooke Point 45–40 on Saturday in a game pushed back a day because of snow.

Valerie Poole scored 22 points and Rachel Payne had 15 rebounds for Brooke Point, which travels to Colonial Beach on Monday.

Jahla Osborne led the way for Colonial Forge, scoring 18 points in their 70–19 victory over Massaponax Zhane Barnes added 11 points and Tekeyra Brown, Kenya Holland and Nia Washington each scored 10 points.

Massaponax fell to 5–5 on the season and will face Stafford on Tuesday.
