HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Talley, Cougars defeat Falcons

Kyle Talley posted a double–double to lead the Courtland boys basketball team to a 54–51 victory over Fauquier in a Conference 22 clash Saturday.

Talley recorded 22 points and 22 rebounds. Terrell Robinson added seven points and 14 rebounds and Jabari Allen netted eight points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars, who are back in action Jan. 7 at Caroline.

Mountain View was handed its first loss of the season on Saturday despite a 25-point effort from Lucas Brown. Hopewell’s Daniel Saunders shot a perfect 6 of 6 from the line and finished with 23 points.

Faith Baptist defeated Christ Chapel of Woodbridge and won the consolation game of the Richmond Christian School’s Christmas Tournament.

Emily Conroe led Faith’s scorers with 15 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Chancellor sank eight 3-point shots in their victory against Monticello. Jayla Harris and Emily Green led the Chargers with 22 and 21 points respectively.

Cierra Hall led Monticello with 17 points.

Chancellor, who remains unbeaten in the district, will face Woodside in the Boo Williams Tournament in Hampton at a date to be determined.

WINTER TRACK

PR HOLIDAY INVITATIONAL

Stafford’s Lukey Lysher won the boys 1,000 meters in a time of 2:40.25 at the PR Holiday Invitational in Landover, Md.

Other Indians’ high finishers included Amiaya Carey, who took second place in the high jump (5–2); Sabrina Johnson, third in the shot put (38–3); and the Indians boys (8:27.75) and girls (10:27.80) 3,200 relay teams, which both took fourth place.

 

WRESTLING

TOYS FOR TOTS INVITATIONAL

Three Wildcats won their weight classes as Mountain View totaled 231.5 points to win the 19-school, two-day Mike Duman ‘Toys for Tots’ Invitational at Nansemond River High School in Suffolk.

Josue Beltran Jr. (120), Trevor Watkins (138) and Jared Swan (170) placed first. Benjamin Bullin (160) took second place and Russell Ramsey (152) finished third.

DINWIDDIE DUALS

Spotsylvania won three matches at the dual event, including a win over Washington & Lee (55–24). The Knights had five wins apiece from Josh Stacy (145) and William Krause (170).
