HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Cyclones triumph in a thriller

BOX SCORE

Incredible. That’s the word Eastern View quarterback Josh Stallings used to describe this game which went down to the wire and saw the Cyclones come out victorious, 35–32.

E.C. Glass broke a 21–21 tie early in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard field goal by George Bennett to move ahead 24–21.

On the ensuing drive, Stallings rolled left, threw against his body and connected with Jacob Settle 45 yards down field for a touchdown which gave the Cyclones the 28–24 lead with seven minutes remaining in the game.

After a three-and-out by E.C. Glass, Eastern View would drive down the field and Stallings would punch it in from the 1-yard line to increase the Cyclones’ lead to 35–24 with two minutes remaining in the game.

Game over, right? Not quite.

On the first play from scrimmage, Donnie Morgan Jr. connected with Quentin Garland for a 45-yard touchdown to silence the crowd and give E.C. Glass a glimmer of hope. The Hilltoppers would convert the two-point conversion and narrow their deficit to only three.

E.C. Glass recovered the onside kick and had a chance to tie the game with only seconds left on the clock. The kick missed wide left and the Cyclones held on for the win.
