HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Balanced Chargers advance to region final
Allison Weiland, Greer Trainham and Chelsea Galera each scored goals and Jordan Rasure led the defense to help the Chancellor field hockey team take home a 3–0 win at Bruton in the 4A–North Regional semifinals on Tuesday.
Weiland and Katherine Hull—who had an assist, as did Kate Colley—stood out all over the field for the Chargers (19–1).
Chancellor, which also earned a state semifinal berth with Tuesday’s win, travels to James Monroe on Thursday for the region championship.
SPOTSYLVANIA 3, BRENTSVILLE 1
Led by Brittany Kendrick’s nine kills, two aces and three digs; and Veronica Lane’s six kills, five blocks and five aces Spotsylvania was able to edge out visiting Brentsville 25–22, 25–21, 12–25, 25–18 in the Conference 27 volleyball semifinals on Tuesday.
Also helping the Knights were Taylor Sale (three kills, three blocks, four digs) and Miranda Roberts (11 assists and two aces).
On Thursday, Spotsylvania (14–6) returns to action in the conference championship game at Kettle Run.
COURTLAND 3, KING GEORGE 0
Josie Till had 10 kills and three aces, and teammate Bianca Rumbaugh doled out 22 assists to help top-seeded Courtland capture a 25–8, 25–10, 25–13 win in the Conference 22 semifinals against visiting King George.
Anna Gallup had five kills, while Marisol Gonzalez and Brooke Belcastro added four each for the Cougars (23–1). McKay Richardson provided 11 digs and three assists.
Courtland, which earned a spot in the 4A–North Regional tournament with the win, will host the conference final on Thursday.
FAUQUIER 3, CHANCELLOR 0
Shawna Morris had seven kills for visiting Chancellor, but the Chargers couldn’t pull off their second upset of the tournament as second-seeded Fauquier won 25–19, 25–14, 25–18 in the Conference 22 semifinals.
Sydney Murray totaled 11 digs and Emma Meek five kills for Chancellor, which concluded its season with a 5–17 record.
HANDLEY 3, LOUISA 0
Second-seeded Handley hand third-seeded Louisa a 25–3, 25–18, 25–17 defeat in the Conference 23 semifinals.
