HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Lynch’s goal lifts Knights

Kali Lynch deflected a shot into the cage with under six minutes to play to give Spotsylvania a 1–0 field hockey win over visiting Kettle Run on Monday.

Kirsten Haynes and Logan Wolfe were solid on defense, while Mary Wolfrey was a key player in the midfield for the Knights, who visit Culpeper on Wednesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

JAMES MONROE 7, CULPEPER 1

Libby King had three goals, and Hannah Fisher provided two goals and an assist to help visiting James Monore get a win.

Miranda Rigg and Rebecca Hamlett also scored, while LC King registered two assists and Catesby Willis one for the Yellow Jackets, who host Kettle Run on Wednesday.

Colby Mocarski scored for Culpeper.

CHANCELLOR 7, FAUQUIER 0

Chelsea Galera and Katherine Hull each scored twice, while Kenzie Neylon, Jordan Rasure and Greer Trainham also tallied for the homestanding Chargers.

Galera, Neylon and Kaila Bernard added assists for Chancellor (8–1), which visits Eastern view on Wednesday.

EASTERN VIEW 3, COURTLAND 1

Mckenzie Queen had two goals and Sarah Brown added a goal to help visiting Eastern View to a win.

Marybeth McBroom had a goal for the Cougars (4–5) who will host Liberty on Wednesday.

KING GEORGE 6, LIBERTY 0

Shelby King and Liz Hill each scored twice to help King George secure a home victory.

Josie Altman and Maure Buckley also scored for the Foxes (7–3). Meghan Yanchulis, Kayla Hester, Buckley and King provided assists.

King George visits Fauquier on Wednesday.

FREDERICKSBURG ACADEMY 10, WAKEFIELD 0

Meghan Norair had four goals to help Fredericksburg Academy to a home win.

Sara Eadie had two goals and Colleen Norair had two goals and two assists.

Cate Hazel and Allegra Massey–Elim each had a goal for the Falcons (7–2), who will visit North Cross on Friday.

ALBEMARLE 6, LOUISA 0

Goalie Kelsey Stanley recorded 17 saves for Louisa, but visiting Albemarle took home a win.

Adriana Spouse had three shots and Essence Holland two for the Lions, while Jessie Lane came up with a defensive save.

 

VOLLEYBALL

CHANCELLOR 3, CAROLINE 0

Emily Ginn had 10 assists, and Kayla Jacobs totaled six digs and four kills to help homestanding Chancellor get a 25–18, 25–21, 25–15 victory.

Emma Meek contributed seven kills for the Chargers (2–8), who visit Liberty on Thursday.

BROAD RUN 3, BROOKE POINT 1

Jasmine Jones had seven kills and 14 blocks for Brooke Point, but visiting Broad Run took home a 25–13, 22–25, 25–22, 25–11 win.

Desiree Claxton added 12 kills and 12 digs for the Black–Hawks (7–8), who will host Stafford today.

HYLTON 3, NORTH STAFFORD 0

Ebonie Hicks had 14 assists and Alexandra Sosik had 12 kills and four aces, but fell to visiting Hylton in a 25–11, 25–19, 26–24 loss.

The Wolverines (7–4) visit Riverbend today.

MASSAPONAX 3, POTOMAC 0

Indiana Wright had six kills and two digs, and Erica Cunningham doled out 19 assists to help Massaponax earn a 25–7, 25–6, 25–14 home win.

Colleen Beaver added five aces, four kills and two blocks for the Panthers (11–7), who host Mountain View on Thursday.

 

GOLF

CONFERENCE 20 TOURNAMENT

Monacan edge Midlothian 335–339 to earn the Conference 20 championship at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club on Monday.

Monacan’s Brittany Woo shot a 79 on the par-72 course to win individual medalist honors.

Caroline finished sixth in the seven-team field. Collin Hess shot a 90 for the Cavaliers and also was named to the all-conference academic team along with teammates Cate Cooper, Adam Dejarlais, Ryan Hickman, Justin Pitts and Gaby Rivera.

Stone Lewis had a hat trick to lead Faith Baptist to a win at home.

Ash Lewis added two assists and Morgan Copeland had a goal for the Conquerors (9–0), who will visit Lighthouse Christian Academy on Thursday.
