HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Cougars, Chargers, Cyclones get wins

Katelyn Skinner had a goal and two assists, and teammate Marybeth McBroom added a goal and an assist to help Courtland get a 5–2 field hockey win at Fauquier on Wednesday.

Cameryn McLaurine and Caroline Mastin also scored for the Cougars (4–4), who host Eastern View on Monday.

FIELD HOCKEY

CHANCELLOR 11, LIBERTY 0

Chelsea Galera, Kenzie Neylon and Chloe Fernandez each scored twice as seven players tallied goals in Chancellor’s road victory.

Greer Trainham, Allison Weiland, Kate Colley and Katherine Hull also scored for the Chargers (7–1).

Hull (three), Fernandez (tw0), Colley (tw0), Weiland (tw0) and Galera also had assists for Chancellor, which host Fauquier on Monday.

EASTERN VIEW 1, KING GEORGE 0

The homestanding Cyclones scored in the first half and made the lead hold up to get a win over the Knights. Both teams at 4–2.

On Monday, King George and Spotsylvania played to a 0–0 tie through regulation and overtime, but the Foxes were able to outdo the Knights, 3–0, in strokes. Strokes were converted by Maure Buckley, Meghan Yanchulis and Shelby King.

King George host Liberty on Monday.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

QUAD MEET AT LORIELLA PARK

Visiting Jefferson Forest swept both the boys and girls races, with the girls team finishing in places 1–7 to win easily.

Chancellor’s Neil Schubel was the top local finisher, coming in second, 24 seconds behind Charlottesville’s Riley Covert. The Chargers’ Alana Collins was the top local girls finisher, coming in eight.

Chancellor travels to Richmond for the Maymont XC Festival on Saturday. Spotsylvania takes part in the Octoberfest Invitational on Oct. 5 in The Plains.

Boys team results: 1. Jefferson Forest 35; 2. Chancellor 50; 3. Charlottesville 69; 4. Spotsylvania 79.

Boys results: 1. Riley Covert (Cv) 17:22; 2. Neil Schubel (Ch) 17:46; 4. Kyle Newton (Sp) 18:18; 5. Sawyer Czarnecki (Sp) 18:21; 9. Trejon Edmons (Ch) 18:46; 10. Aaron Narraine (Ch) 18:48.

Girls team results: 1. Jefferson Forest 15; 2. Chancellor 69; 3. Charlottesville 75.

Girls results: 1. Erin Saunders (JF) 19:52; 8. Alana Collins (Ch) 21:42.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

FREDERICKSBURG ACADEMY 6, RANDOLPH-MACON ACADEMY 1

The visiting Fredericksburg Academy girls tennis team swept the singles match to take home a 6–1 victory over Randolph–Macon Academy on Wednesday.

The Falcons host Highland School on Friday.

Singles: Sam King (FA) d. Amelia Zipparo 8-1; Kendra Nedell (FA) d. Sixin Xie 8-0; Jenna LeMay (FA) d. Sixi Tang 8-0; Mackie Storage (FA) d. Sixi Xie 8-2; Elma Adusei (FA) d. Oluwanteniola Oduntan 8-3.

Doubles: King–Nedell (FA) d. Amelia Zipparo–Sixi Tang 8-0; Sixin Xie–Sixi Xie (RMA) d. LeMay–Storage 8-5.
