HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Massaponax rallies for five-game victory

Erica Cunningham had 47 assists and 21 digs for the Massaponax volleyball team in a 20–25, 21–25, 25–17, 25–13, 16–14 victory over visiting Courtland on Monday night.

Colleen Beaver recorded 18 kills and six blocks and Sabrina Torres had 16 kills and 15 digs for Massaponax (9–7), which visits Stafford today.

Leaders for the Cougars (11–1) were Josie Till (10 kills), Bianca Rumbaugh (22 assists, nine digs), Amanda DePalma (six kills), Anna Gallup (five kills, 12 digs, three aces, two blocks), and McKay Richardson (25 digs).

Courtland visits Caroline Tuesday.

 

VOLLEYBALL

BROOKE POINT 3, POTOMAC 0

Jasmine Jones had 12 kills and three blocks to help Brooke Point defeat Potomac 25–10, 25–13, 25–6.

Cori Jacobsen tallied 22 assists and Kailah Boateng added four kills and five aces for Brooke Point (7–6), which plays Massaponax on Thursday. 

MOUNTAIN VIEW 3, GAR–FIELD 2

Taylor Barbazon doled out 25 assists, and Sarah Weisband had 12 kills and eight aces to lead visiting Mountain View to a 25–10, 25–13, 16–25, 23–25, 15–8 win.

Gabrielle Martin added six kills for the Wildcats (4–5) who host Riverbend Tuesday.

 

FIELD HOCKEY

STAFFORD 8, WOODBRIDGE 1

Rachel Riley and Kenly Belman each scored twice, and Emily Kresho provided three assists in Stafford’s convincing win.

Morgan French added a goal and an assists, while Brooke Harmon, Natalie Bohmke and Katie Dueull also scored for the Indians (6–2).

Erin Corey had two assists and Lia Constantine one for Stafford, which hosts Massaponax Tuesday. 

CHANCELLOR 14, CAROLINE 0

Katherine Hull and Chelsea Galera each had three goals, while Chloe Fernandez and Kenzie Neylon each scored twice in Chancellor’s home win.

Jordan Rasure, Allison Weiland, Kate Colley and Ashanti Wright also scored, while Fernandez (tw0), Rasure (two), Hull, Weiland, Colley, Katie Jones, Erin Bushman and Angela Banko contributed assists for the Chargers (6–1).

Chancellor visits Liberty on Wednesday.

BROOKE POINT 8, GAR–FIELD 0

Liz Washington recorded a hat trick to lead Booke Point past Garfield.

Rachael Payne had two goals with Taylor Hayes and Caroline Wilkerson each scoring once for the Black-Hawks (6–3).

Washington, Hayes, and Wilkerson each also picked up an assist for Brooke Point, which visits Massaponax on Thursday.

 

GOLF

JEFFERSON DISTRICT MINI

Powhatan won the final mini tournament of the season to close out the Jefferson regular season and lock up the regular-season title.

Luke Hill won medalist honors with an even-par 72 for the Indians, who earned 20 of a possible 21 available points in the mini tournament series.

Louisa finished in sixth and Orange seventh. Joey Vipperman shot an 81 to lead the Lions, and Ryan Dodson and Isaiah Boucher each carded 82s to lead the Hornets.

On Thursday, Louisa takes part in the Conference 23 tournament, while Orange plays in the Conference 15 tournament. Both will be held at Hanover Country Club.
