Three questions: King George
Head coach: Jeff Smith
Last season: 9-3
Last playoff season: 2012
WHAT WE DOES SENIOR QUARTERBACK COREY HENDERSON MEAN TO THIS TEAM?
“It’s been a pleasure to have Corey all four years. He is our offense, defense, you name it he is it,” King George coach Jeff Smith said. “He’s one of those kids that now, although he’s getting a lot of attention, he’s not letting it go to his head. He’s the same old Corey.
“If I had 11 of him that had the same attitude, the work ethic, and I.Q? Oh man, we’d probably win state every year. He’s definitely been a plus. He’s been playing for me ever since he was a freshman and he is one of the rocks in our program. He’s been a blessing. Hopefully he’ll have another great year, hopefully he’ll stay healthy, and things will just continue as they did last year.”
IS THERE ANYONE ON THIS YEAR’S ROSTER WE CAN EXPECT TO HAVE A BREAKOUT SEASON?
“We’re still very young. Even with the veterans we have coming back. I have five sophomores and one freshman that will get plenty of playing time for us,” Smith said.
“With my junior and sophomore class, we’re going to be okay. Sophomore Jordan Aley (CB/WR) is an amazing athlete on both sides of the ball. He’s doing a tremendous job. Junior Antonio Johnson is a hard runner. He plays defense for us also. Those two I think are going to be playmakers for us.”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR FROM YOUR TEAM THIS YEAR?
“As always, I look for us to compete. Here at King George they want to see good football. Last year at all our home games it was pretty much standing room only,” Smith said. “Everyone’s excited about the stadium and we’re putting up a lot of points. In every game that we played, we were in everyone one. We lost a total of three games, each one by seven points. So the biggest thing is to compete. I want to see the kids have fun, and then just still have that King George respect that we’ve gotten over the last couple years.”
