TRIVIA QUESTION: Answer
We here at the Gridiron Blog know you’re in the mood for more high school football nuggets after Saturday’s exciting state semifinal games. Our trivia poll this week focused on a rare Battlefield District feat. Two of the district’s teams — James Monroe and Courtland — made the state semis this year. It’s the first time the Battlefield has had two teams in the state semifinals since 1991, and we asked you in this week’s poll if you could name those teams from ’91. (POLL)
We only had 79 votes, so I hope you guys aren’t getting tired of football. Because we sure aren’t.
Almost half of those who have voted to this point got the answer right. Courtland and Spotsylvania both made the state semifinals in 1991 and it was 21 years before the Battlefield District double happened again this season.
Since 1970, the Battlefield District double has happened only three times, and in each instance one of the teams advanced to the state championship game. James Monroe takes on Brookville in the Group AA, Division 3 championship game on Saturday at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
