A CLOSER LOOK: Lake Taylor at North Stafford

GROUP AAA, DIVISION 5 SEMIFINALS

LAKE TAYLOR (13-0) AT NORTH STAFFORD (11-1)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

NORTH STAFFORD

Sophomore quarterback Jalen Sarratt

Since taking over starting duties in week seven, Sarratt has led the Wolverines to six straight wins while completing 67 percent of his passes for 715 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions.

LAKE TAYLOR

Junior defensive end Jalyn Holmes

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Holmes is one of the top defensive end recruits for 2014 with offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia and many more. He leads the Titans with 71 tackles and also has 11 sacks, 38 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

QUOTE TO NOTE

“They have a lot of speed. I think I read a quote where they said there’s kind of controlled chaos. They’re going to come from every angle, and they’re going to try to overwhelm us. It’s going to be a physical test and a mental test for our kids.” — North Stafford coach Joe Mangano on Lake Taylor’s defense

ETC

*North Stafford is the first Stafford County team to win consecutive Northwest Region championships. The Wolverines have won three region titles since 2004. The rest of the county teams — Stafford, Colonial Forge, Brooke Point and Mountain View — have combined for two.

*Lake Taylor has scored 610 points this season. North Stafford has scored 419 points, which is second in the area behind Mountain View (440).

*The Wolverines have won seven straight since losing to Colonial Forge on Sept. 28. They won six of those games by 23 or more points.

*The Titans have scored at least 41 points in 11 of their 13 games and at least 51 points in six games. They have won by at least three touchdowns in all but one contest (27-25 over Gramby on Oct. 19).
