How to take charge of your family’s health
While you’re waiting for the storm to hit Sunday, be sure to check out the Healthy Living section, which will feature a story about some local parents who, concerned about their son’s weight, made some huge changes in the family’s diet and lifestyle. The pediatrician who wrote the story said the parents have done everything a doctor could hope for to enhance their child’s (and their own) well-being.
Healthy Living also will feature an interesting column by Dr. Patrick Neustatter about how advances in gene testing can help guide patients to the right kinds, and doses, of medicine.
And if you’ve been wondering how much candy kids should be able to scarf down on Halloween, check out dietitian Jennifer Motl’s column Sunday as well. Her advice might surprise you.

It features a dessert recipe from Motl, stress reduction and exercise advice, a calendar of health-related events and a story about how the husband of a meningitis victim now has the disease, too.
