Veteran’s Day essay contest for Spotsy students

Local real estate company, Reality Realty Professionals, is offering a Veteran’s Day essay contest for Spotsylvania County students, grades six through 12.

The contest, in its second year, encourages students to learn more about local veterans and the holiday. Submissions are open.

Students can pick one of three prompts:

  • Interview a Veteran about his or her life experiences and write a biography based on the interview.
  • Personal Story about a Veteran who has made a difference in your life or hometown.  How have they impacted your life, neighborhood, or community?  Stories can be a current military member or can be a veteran who has gone on to serve their communities as teachers, coaches, first responders, mentors, etc.
  • Write an acrostic poem using the word “veteran” or “veterans.”
Find contest rules and application forms here: Veterans Day Writing Contest 2013.

The first place winner will receive a $100 gift card to Barnes and Noble and $250 will be donated to the winner’s classroom. The second place winner will receive a $75 certificate to Barnes and Noble and third place will receive $50 gift card.

All entries must be submitted to the student’s school counseling office by Nov.1.
