Eighth annual Baron P. Braswell II run/walk this weekend

The eighth annual Baron “Deuce” P. Braswell Run/Walk Against Teen Violence kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday on the track at Spotsylvania’s Courtland High School.

The race includes a 5k run/walk and a one mile run for children 14-years and under. There will be guest speakers on teen violence, raffle prizes, food, refreshments, music and moonbounces at the event.

The run was created eight years ago to bring awareness of teen violence and the effects of teen violence on the victim, the families involved, the perpetrator and the community as a whole. It honors the memory of Baron “Deuce” P. Braswell, a 16-year-old Courtland student, who was murdered in 2006.

“This event is designed to unite families and the community to take a stand against teen violence in our area,” said the race website. “Help us to educate our young while participating in an event that is both beneficial to health, heart and mind.”

The course is mostly flat with the start and finish on the track. The route extends onto Smith Station Road.
