Spotsy committee releases calendar proposals for 2013-14
UPDATE: School Board will talk about calendar proposals during Friday’s budget work session at the request of board member Ray Lora.
To get consistency in the calendar, board member Dawn Shelley noted no one can guarantee the division will get a waiver each year to start before Labor Day. Therefore, she recommended going with the recommended option.
The Spotsylvania school division’s Calendar Committee presented three options for the 2013-14 instructional calendar.
The committee is recommending the division start the next school year on Sept. 3, the day after Labor Day. It also recommends the division use banked time for the first five days missed because of bad weather.
That calendar includes a two-week winter break, one week for spring break and and an end date of June 13.
The second option is similar except that students would get eight days off at Christmas, six days in the spring and finish on June 12.
Graduation ceremonies under both of those options would be held June 6 and 7 of 2014.
The third option would start classes on Aug. 26 and end the school year on June 6. It includes a two-week winter break and one week in the spring. Graduations under that option would be held on May 30 and 31 of 2014.
All spring breaks follow Easter.
