Brock Road families helping with wreath laying at Quantico
Brock Road Elementary School students and their families will be helping lay wreaths at Quantico National Cemetery on Saturday as part of Wreaths Across America.
Additional families are welcome to help in this effort to honor the nation’s veterans. Below are details on how to participate provided by representatives from the school and the Civil Air Patrol.
Some sections of the cemetery already have wreaths. People will be placing 3,300 more wreaths this weekend in other areas of cemetery. You can check out a cemetery map.
Where: Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, VA Rte 619, Triangle VA 22172
Parking: Along Cemetery Drives and Loops. Do not park on the grass. Park on Rappahannock Place or Thomas Jefferson Road or Quantico Drive. Motorcycle parking is available on Quantico Drive.
Ceremony Location: Memorial Circle in the cemetery at end of Quantico Drive, past Shelter D, next to section 23.
Arrival Time: Between 10:30-11:30 am. Anticipate traffic, weather, time to park and walk to ceremony location.
Remembrance Ceremony: 12-12:45 p.m.
Wreath Placement: Following the Remembrance Ceremony, Civil Air Patrol members will lead volunteers to the wreath distribution area. Sections for wreath placement will be explained during the ceremony. If interested in placing a wreath at a specific place, such as for a loved one, place that wreath first. Then return to help complete group sections if there are additional wreaths to distribute. In group coverage sections that you are directed to, please completely finish sections and don’t skip any veterans in a section before moving to the next section. Veterans of all faiths will be honored with a holiday wreath.
Expectations: Expect lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes.
Check Weather: The event will be held regardless of weather conditions. Dress appropriately (hats/gloves/umbrellas, rain ponchos). No pets. Remember these are hallowed grounds. Ensure children behave reverently.
Restrooms: Groups are advised to use facilities near the administration building prior to the ceremony and wreath laying.
Estimated Completion Time: 2 p.m.
