Germanna to reopen Dickinson Building and parking deck in January
Germanna Community College is in the process of putting finishing touches on both the restored V. Earl Dickinson Building and a new parking deck at the Fredericksburg Area Campus. Both are slated for use when the spring semester begins on Jan. 7.
The Dickinson Building suffered structural damage from the Aug. 23, 2011 earthquake that centered in adjacent Louisa County.
You can check out today’s story on those issues.
The new parking deck will have 362 spaces over five levels including the open space on top. Including in that are spaces designated for motorcycles. Between the parking garage and the science and engineering building, the college has also installed bicycle racks.
For safety, the college installed nine emergency phones in the parking garage: two on each level and one outside.
Final touches were being made on the building this week, including work on the elevator.
Students will be able to park in the garage on a first come, first served basis, college spokesman Mike Zitz said. The college will not require students to display stickers for access to the garage.
