‘Summertime Santa’ is back in business, giving thanks
The generosity of the Fredericksburg region astounded Richard Foster, the ice cream truck operator who fell on hard times after the freezer compressor on his truck broke in mid-July.
Over 10 days, people throughout the region rallied to get the man known as the “summertime Santa Claus” back on his feet. They ran lemonade stands, donated their time and resources to repair his truck, and sent in thousands of dollars to help him pay his back bills.
“Never in my life had anything like that happened,” he told me. “I never thought it would happen.”

Sean Ludwick, 8, and his sister, Sarah Ludwick, 12, ran a lemonade stand with other children in the Kingswood development on Sept. 23 after learning that their beloved ice cream truck operator had fallen on hard times.
You can check out the full story today in The Free Lance-Star and online as well as the Sept. 22 story that told of Mr. Foster’s struggles.
