‘Deuce’ Braswell’s mother thanks community for supporting anti-violence event

Gwendolyn Braswell-Nash, mother of the late Baron “Deuce” Braswell II, asked that her appreciation be relayed to the community for its  support of last weekend’s Run/Walk Against Teen Violence.

The event honors the life of Baron Braswell, a 16-year-old student-athlete at Courtland High School who was killed in January 2006 in an act of teen violence.

Proceeds from the event go toward a memorial scholarship fund that benefits college-bound seniors graduating from public schools in the city of Fredericksburg and counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George and Caroline.

Below is her message.

Thanks to all of the individual participants, the various schools and teams who participated and/or volunteered in the 7th Annual Baron P. “Deuce” Braswell II Run/Walk Against Teen Violence. Thank you for coming out and taking a stand against teen violence and violence in our community.

I would like to thank our Corporate Sponsor, Pratt Medical Center, its Board of Directors and Mr. Bob Alexander, Chief Executive Officer. Also, Teri McNally, CEO of the Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region.

Thank you to all the associate sponsors, the planning committee members, and the myriad of volunteers and supporters.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Guest Speakers – Sheriff Roger

Harris (Captain Pearce) and Dr. Scott Baker, and to our fabulous musicians

Dylane Esposito and Mandie Sanders for lending their incredible voices to our

presentation. Thanks also, to Mr. Harry Lovell, our talented DJ for motivating

everyone before, during and after the race.

A special thanks to Principal Larry Marks and the Courtland Cougars.

Gwen Braswell-Nash
