Deputies will be on duty at elementary schools for first day of classes
Don’t be alarmed if you notice patrol cars outside Spotsylvania County elementary schools Tuesday morning when classes start for the 2012-13 school year.
The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office is deploying deputies to the 17 county elementary schools to demonstrate to the littlest students that law enforcement officers are friendly folks, eager to help, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies will help any students needing assistance on the first day.
Schools spokeswoman Rene Daniels said the division is happy to have the deputies at the elementary schools as part of the partnership between the division and law enforcement.
Normally, deputies are only on duty at the county’s middle and high schools where they serve as school resource officers.
