Germanna finishing work on quake-damaged building

Work should be completed soon on the Dickinson Building at Germanna Community College’s campus in Spotsylvania County. The building was damaged in the Aug. 23 earthquake.

I toured the building Friday for a story that should be coming out soon.

For those of you who remember the crack at the stairwell near the building’s entrance, I snapped a shot of that area during my tour. The work isn’t finished but you can see that the damage is gone.

Construction crews have installed steel beams throughout the building to shore it up to better withstand another earthquake should one ever rattle the region again. The beams run vertically and diagonally. Some will remain in view whereas some, like the one pictured below, will be hidden by a wall.
Watch for the story with more details about the work at the Fredericksburg Area Campus and an update on other Germanna projects now under way.
