Weather service warns of scorcher on Friday

Sun Clipart Image: clip art image of a bright sunshineThis safety alert just came in from the National Weather Service regarding dangerously hot conditions on Friday.

The excessive heat watch runs from Friday morning through Friday evening and applies to jurisdictions throughout the Fredericksburg region.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES…UP TO 110 DEGREES.

* TEMPERATURES…UPPER 90S TO AROUND 100 DEGREES.

* IMPACT…RISK OF HEAT EXHAUSTION OR OTHER HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS  TO THOSE WITHOUT AIR-CONDITIONING AND THOSE OUTDOORS FOR ANY  EXTENDED PERIOD.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE.

STEPS TO TAKE:

  • DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS.
  • STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED  ROOM.
  • STAY OUT OF THE SUN.
  • CHECK ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
